WHAT KIND OF TCM-INSPIRED YOGA DO I TEACH?

Mellow Yin Yoga

Think: long + slow holds, supported by lots of props, in a mostly floor-based practice.

This is a very gentle and passive practice that is the perfect antidote to our busy, modern + overstimulated lives.

A TCM based class where we stimulate and nourish the body’s pathways (meridians) to bring back balance and calm, through simple poses (held for a long period of time), meditation and breath work. It’s a wind-down from the week that was to reset the nervous system!

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Think: movement and breath are linked together in this flowing practice which makes for a beautiful moving + meditative practice.

All levels and abilities are catered for in this dynamic class - but some experience of yoga is recommended.

Reset with this practice where you can expect to find sun salutes, standing work and balancing poses, forward folds and backbends, twists and hips… the whole kit and caboodle!

What does TCM-inspired mean?

Acupuncture was a life-changing treatment for me in regards to the depression, anxiety and adrenal fatigue that I experienced in my 20's and 30's. So much so that I decided to change career paths (from a National Publicist in the music biz) and began studying it at university!

Although I mainly practice as a Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Acupuncturist now, when i do teach yoga it is inseperable from my work in the clinic.

The strong foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine see a practice which is both preventative and supportive. Chinese Medicine itself is a system that dates back thousands of years, and is a very holistic way of looking at and treating people, with the aim of overall health and wellness.

So what does this look like in a yoga practice?

Well, we'll often work along specific meridian lines (look at the Yin Yoga description above), and work towards practices that are seasonally-specific and follow the energy of the environment around us.

This may mean more invigorating practices in Summer and Spring, whereas the cooler parts of the year see a more nourishing and restorative practice as the order of the day!

You can expect each and every class with me to be relevant to the day and to the energy of the participants, as we are always changing as humans!
